What is MAP – Modified Atmosphere Packaging?

Modified Atmosphere Packaging, or MAP, changes the gas composition inside a package to help maintain product quality and extend shelf life. Gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen may be used depending on the application. MAP is widely associated with food packaging, especially fresh and processed products. Packaging films and sealing systems must be compatible with the selected atmosphere. The method requires controlled filling and sealing conditions.
